ADBLUE® QUALITY MANAGEMENT

DIVERSIFICATION OF SUPPLY

In late 2021 the global supply of technical grade urea was disrupted, causing challenges in the supply of AdBlue® across Australia.

As Australia’s leading supplier of AdBlue®, Ecoblue worked to overcome these obstacles and continued to support our clients’ requirements during the crisis.

What caused the AdBlue® crisis?

The recent AdBlue® shortage was a perfect storm of events. Technical grade urea is the main component required to manufacture AdBlue®. A global shipping disruption placed serious strain on the supply chain of urea, a chemical used mostly commonly as fertilised in the agriculture industry. A shortage of urea caused many of the manufacturing countries to reserve stock for themselves before exporting overseas. These two factors resulted in a reduction in the amount of technical grade urea coming to Australia, impacting our production of AdBlue®.

How do we feel about the future of supply?

Ecoblue’s position is that the future of urea supply has not yet stabilised. However, we believe that with our new supply partners, increased storage capabilities, and an expanded fleet, we are confident in our ability to supply the market into the future.

What has been implemented in our learning?

Following the crisis, Ecoblue has implemented a number of changes resulting from key learnings. We have diversified our supply of urea both in terms of country of origin, and the suppliers within those countries. We have signed new contracts and agreements with these suppliers committing to volumes to avoid fluctuation. Ecoblue has invested in expanded storage facilities, a larger fleet, and more people in order to navigate potential issues with supply chains.

How did our customers get through the experience?

The crisis was a challenging time for both us and our customers. We worked very closely with all our customers to keep them informed of the situation, and to communicate timeframes and delivery quantities.
